Career / Biography
Jack Nicholson was one of Hollywood’s great actors during the 1980's and a long time partner of Angelica Huston. Remembered by many for his very creepy performance in The Shining, though one of his best performances was in As Good As It Gets. After starting acting on stage his move into films was through director Roger Crman. His first screen role was in The Cry Baby Killer and then in Little Shop Of Horrors, both with Roger Corman. He then made some films with director Monte Hellamn including Flight To Fury. During the 1960's he was also writing screenplays. It was his performance in Easy Rider that made him a star as it was a very successful film and gained him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. he followed this with Five Easy Pieces and he was nominated for Best Actor Oscar. This was followed by Best Actor Oscar nominations for both The Last Detail and Chinatown. His next big success was One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and he won the Best Actor Oscar. His role in The Shining created one of the great horror films. Terms Of Endearment was a change in style being more of a romantic comedy. In Prizzi's Honor he plays a mafia hit-man in essentially a comedy take on mafia gangsters and again nominated for Best Actor Oscar. He played a very creepy Joker in Tim Burton's Batman. A Few Good Men is a courtroom drama. His second Best Actor Oscar win was for As Good As It Gets and one of his funniest and entertaining roles. Something's Gotta Give is another great romantic comedy. In Martin Scorsese's The Departed he is back to playing the villain.
