An outlaw (Jack Nicholson) is about to get hanged but according to the town laws if a woman agrees to marry him, he will be saved from the noose. The woman (Mary Steenburgen) who agrees to marry him wants him to work in her mine looking for gold. As their on/off relationship develops, his old gang appears and gets wind of their gold. This is an entertaining comedy western, with good performances from Jack Nicholson and Mary Steenburgen as the two lead protagonists, and they are well aided by a strong supporting cast.
