Career / Biography

Hugh grant is a successful British actor in a series of slightly bumbling upper middle class roles in various romantic comedies. he started his career in rep theatre and also in a comedy trio. He then appeared in several television episodes before featuring in anumber of films in the late 1980's some of which were European productions. Bitter Moon was a strange dark romance from Roman Polanski. This was followed by the Merchant-Ivory production Remains Of The Day. The film that made him an international star was Four Weddings And A Funeral from writer Richard Curtis. His first big Hollywood film was Nine Months which he said he did not act well in. Extreme Measures was a move away from comedy / romance genre and one of his few thriller roles. After a three year gap he returned in Richard Curtis's Notting Hill. Mickey Blue Eyes was a film he produced and acted in, but was not very successful at the box office. He then stared in the very successful Bridget Jones's Diary. In this he is more of a cad rather than the nice guy. Love actually was another Richard Curtis romantic comedy and very successful. About A Boy was based on the Nick Hornsby's novel. Two Weeks notice is another romantic comedy where he is a rich boss and he is not his previous foppish character. In Music and Lurics he is washed up pop star given the opportunity to revive his career and is about creativity. Florence Foster Jenkins was a change of genre and an historical biopic.
