Denzel Washington is a popular actor on film and television. His early career was marked by his role in the television eries St Elsewhere, where he apepared in all 137 episodes. He appeared in a few films during this period, and his first major film role was in Cry Freedom. This was followed by Glory for which he won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Malcolm X was the second film he worked with Spike Lee and earned him an Oscar nomination. Although Philadelphia is has Tom Hanks at its heart, it also revolves around the performance from Denzel Washington. In The Hurricane he played a boxer werongly imprisoned an had another Oscar nomination. In Training Day he plays an unpleasant character but plays him convincingly and was the film for which he won a Best Actor Oscar. Man On Fire was an action film. Insidde Man was another Spike Lee film. American Gangster was another film where Denzel Washington plays a real life character in this case in a Ridley Scott film.
