Mo's Better Blues was a less angry and more reflective film about being a jazz musician. Jungle Fever is a study of the tension both within and outside an interracial marriage. THe success of this led to him making Malcolm X for which he had a bigger budget. It is notable for being the first western film that was shot in Mecca, albeit with a muslim 2nd unit. It is one of the better biopics or the period. Crooklyn was very different being semi-atobiographical about his life and family in Brooklyn. Clockers is his fi0rst thriller and deals with drugs gangs. Summer of Sam was a film that he wanted to she he was not just a film maker about black Americans. Inside Man was different in that it was a thriller but also a Hollywood blockbuster rather than the more indie films. Chi-Raq is a curious film based on a Greek story where the women refuse to have sex until the war stops, but set in Chicago.
