Russian rebels take control of some nuclear weapons and an American nuclear submarine is sent in response. Captain Gene Hackman and executive officer Denzel Washington do not see eye to eye and when only a partial order to launch the nuclear weapons is received Gene Hackman wants to launch but Denzel Washington disagrees and relieves him of command. A power struggle develops between them. This is well produced as expected from a Jerry Bruckheimer film with a good build of tension and gene Hackman gives a good performance as the unthinking military commander opposite Denzel Washington's thinking approach.
