Career / Biography
Hedy Lamarr was born in Austria and her early films were German productions, including the controversial film Ekstasy. She then moved to America where she was a major star in the late 1930's and through the 1940's. Although a major star in the 1940's and considered to be one the most beautiful women of the period, she did little work from the 1950's onwards. During World War 2 she was jointly involved in the development of frequency hopping spread spectrum radio technology that underpins much modern communications technology. She is quoted as saying "Any girl can be glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid". However in her case she was intelligent and could act. She had a short marriage to John Loder.
