Matthew McConaughey is mainly known for his romantic comedy roles although he has also appeared in dramatic and science fiction films. His career started in commercials and music videos before his first film role in Dazed and Confused in which he improvised much of his role. His next major role was the lawyer in A Time To Kill and then the science fiction film Contact. The Wedding Planner was a romantic comedy and this was followed by a return to science fiction with Reign Of Fire. Sahara was an action / adventure but was a financial failure. This was followed by several more romantic comedies. he then refocused his career starting with another lawyer role in The Lincoln Lawyer. Killer Joe was a much darker film and a darker role. This was a long way from his rom-com characters. mud is something of a southern gothic film that showed his Texas roots. Dallas Buyers Club was the role that won him the Best Actor Oscar. Interstellar is a complex science fiction film set in the near future.
