Clint Eastwood has produced and directed a range of flims from Westerns, to dramas to thrillers. See Clint Eastwood actor for his acting credits. Whilst acting the directors Sergio Leone and Don Siegel were influencial in him developing as a director. , The first folm he directed was Play Misty For Me. In the Eiger Sanction he moved to a spy genre and in it he did all his own stunts. In The Outlaw Josey Wales it is notable that there is limited dialogue and has a differnt tone and style to other westerns of the time and in Pale RIder he challenges that traditional style of western. The biopic Bird was the first film he directed where he did not act in it. In this Eastwood took original recordings of Charlie Parker stripped out the other instruments and then addded new backing so the sound track has his original playing in it. It is an example of the theme Clint Eastwood used often of the lone outsider. Unforgiven unpacks some of the myths around the western and also of some of Clint Eastwoods own charcters in previous westerns and won him a Best Director Oscar. Bridges Of Madison County was a move into romantic films and Space Cowbuys a tongue in cheek sci-fi film. Mystic River has the effects of the past playing out in the present and brings tensions between the chacters. He was nominated for the Best Director Oscar. In Million Dollar Baby he develops the relationship bettwen himself and Hilart Swank and so when tragedy strikes, it is intensely moving. This won Best picture and Best Director Oscars. Letters from Iwo Jima is less of a war film and more about how war is portrayed to the public and in this case from the Japanese side. In Gran Torino he plays alomost a cliche of himself as a grumpy war veteran dealing with imigrants as he deals with a boy who tries to steal his car. With Invictus he manages to merge sport and politics and make social observations. In American Snpier he explors how a man whose only skill is to kill people comes with life after the war and in a sense about PTSD.
