Comment/Synopsis

In post war Vienna, Joseph Cotten tries to find out why his friend Harry Lime (Orson Welles) was killed. This is a classic film-noir based on the Graham Greene novel with the charcter of Harry Lime being a memorable villan. Also notable in the film is the theme music from Anton Karas and the creative use of camera angles and shadows from Robert Krasker's cinematography. This is a good example of FIlm Noir that is based on a novel by Graham Greene, that has the atmosphere of post-war Vienna and atmospheric lighting. Carol Reed produced onr of the best British films made in black and white, although it had contributions fromoter nationals.
