In a dystopian near futire where the earth is over populated, poluted and has little fresh food, most of the population live off synthetic food made by the Soylent Corporation, whilst the few rich people live in luxury and affluence. When one of the board of directors is murdered a policeman investigates despite pressure to stop and then he uncovers secrets about Soylent and their new prooduct Soylent Green. The film mixes environmantal disaster, science fiction and police investigation of a murder. It is an early example of a film depicting a dystopian future. This was Edward G Robinson's final film as he was terminally il during filming, but he still gave a good performance.
