In a future totalitarian state books are banned and burned by firemen, whilst a resistance tries to keep books and reading alive. Oskar Werner is a fireman who meets Julie Christie, a secret book reader, and after he starts reading books he begins to doubt the motives of the state. Written and directed by influential French director Francois Truffaunt from the Ray Bradbury novel that presents a disturbing dystopian future. This is Francois Truffant's only English language film.
