A doctor and a poet (Omar SHeriff) marries one woman (Geraldine Chaplin) and loves another woman (Julie Christie) all against the backdrop of World War 1 and the Russion revolution. This is David Lean's spralling, huge and visually impressive epic adaptation of Boris Pasternak's novel. The film is all about the characters and scenes rather than explainging revolution and politics. Omar Sheriff is solid in the lead but it is Julie Christie's performance as the woman in love with a married man but having anaffair with an abusive man. It is a sort of soap opera filled with Russian emotion. David Lean moves from the big vista's to the intimate close ups.
