Not even Michelle Pfeiffer or Winona Ryder can inject any life into this period drama set in late 19th century New York. The plot revolves around a love triangle between Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Winona Ryder, however for a Martin Scorsese film this is disappointing. There is a narrator telling the story and the characters give descriptions of what they are doing rather than there being any dialogue and character development.
