Career / Biography

After starting her career on the stage Sigourney Weaver became a major film star as Ripley in the Sci-Fi/Horror film Alien. She has subsequently appeared in a variety of films including several good comedies (Ghostbusters, Working Girl and Galaxy Quest). She started her career on the stage, but her first major film role was Ripley in Alien. Ghostbusters was a surreal comedy in which she is basically the straight woman in a comedy. She then reprised her role as Ripley in Aliens, but this time as an heroic soldier and she was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar. This was followed by another Oscar nomination for Gorillas In The Mist, the story of Diane Fosse and the gorillas. She then had another Oscar nomination for the romantic comedy Working Girl. She then returned to the Alien franchise with Alien3. Dave was a return to comedy and romance. Galaxy Quest is an affectionate parady of science fiction television series. In Heartbrakers she cons rich men out of their money with the help of her daughter. After appearing in M Night Shyamalan's The Village she had a role in the blockbuster film Avatar.
