A paraplegic soldier is sent to a remote moon where he takes on the form of an avatar to interact with the local people and win their trust. However he is torn between completing his mission and mining the planet and helping the inhabitants. Whilst the plot may not be great this is a visually very impressive film with its mix of live action and high quality CGI. James Cameron created a very detailed and elaborate world and also challenges the morality around the interaction of different cultures.
