Career / Biography
John Voight has had a long career in films since the 1960's in both drama and action films. His early acting career was on television and on the stage. His first film role was Fearless Frank. It was his role in Midnight Cowboy that brought him notice and became his career defining role. It also won him an Oscar nomination. This was followed up by a central role in Catch-22. Coming home is an emotional anti-war film and a strong performance from Jon Voight that won him his Oscar. The Champ was Franco Zeffirelli's remake of the earlier 1931 film.
He had another Oscar nomination for his performance in Runaway train. Heat was a different role being a crime thriller. Mission Impossible was a big budgte action film and in contrast to the Rainmaker which was a cout room drama. This was followed by several other action films and then the satirical comedy Zoolander. In Pearl Harbour and Ali he puts a lot of effort into becoming his character. He is the father of Angelina Jolie.
