Alan Arkin is a bombadier who tries to get out of being in the Air Force during World War 2 by trying to show he is insane. During the process he sees his friends killed in the futility and insanity of war. An evokative and thought provoking film version of the Joseph Heller novel. This was Mike Newell's third film and is notable for some of the flying sequences were he had 17 restored bombers flying.
