Career / Biography

Alan Rickman was a versatile British character actor who appeared in a variety of styles of films from drama, to action, to comedy, to fantasy, to sci-fi. He initially started as a graphic designer before studying at RADA and working on the stage and on television. This led to his break out film role in Die Hard as the terrorist mastermind. This was followed by the Australian set western Quigley Down Under. In Truly Madly Deeply from director Anthony Minghella he gives a performance that is one of his most popular. His performance in Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves he gives one of his best villanous dramatic and comic roles, and one of his best roles. He then appeared in two British period drama's, An Awfully Big Adventure and Sense And Sensibility from director Ang Lee. He then gives a powerful performance as Rasputin. In Galaxy Quest he palys a wonderful send up of himself in this satire sci-fi film. Blow Dry was another comic satire. He was then cast as Severus Snake in the Harry Potter series of films. With Love Actually he appeared again with Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson. His role in Sweeny Todd was a change of style into a historical musical. In The Butler he played president Ronald Regan. In A Little Chaos he stared and directed in this historical drama. Eye In The Sky was his final screen role.
