Gary Oldman is an actor who has appeared in a wide range of film genre including several sci-fi and fantasy films. He is now best known for his role as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour for which he won a Best Actor Oscar. He was previously married to Uma Thurman. espite being turned down by RADA he took up acting and applied himself diligently to his craft. His first film role was in Sid and Nancy palying the punk Sid Vicious. In Track 29 he appeared in more of a character study within a comedy drama and it also showed the firat eaxmples of his ability as an actor in both body and in the face. In JFK he plays Lee Harvey Oswald where he has to produce an enigmatic charcter that fitted the historical record. His first leading role came in Francis Ford Coppola's epic Bram Stokers Dracula. Immortal Beloved is a biopic of Beethoven's life and his deafness. In the FIfth Element he is plotting the end of the world but with an almost sardonic approach. In Hannibalhe puts across the emotions of the character despite the complete disfigurement of his face. He then appeared in some of the Harry Potter films. In Batman Begins he plays the policeman who is not corrupt and works with Batman. His first Oscar nomination came for his performance as Smiley in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
For his portrayal of Winston CHurchill in Darkest Hour he won the Best Actor Oscar. It is a measure of his ability as an actor to be able to be Sid Vicious and Winston CHurchil.
