A woman in an unhappy marriage to a doctor infatuated with his model railway meets a man who claims he is the son she gave up a few days old. The husband lives in a world of his own with his railway and an affair with his nurse. She is desperate for a child and the boy clearly has mental health issues, although it soon becaomes clear he may not be real. It then merges into a mix of surrealism, fantasy and incest. Gary Oldman gives something of an over the top performance in what is an unlikable character.
