William Hurt was a popular American actor particularly in the 1980's and 1990's. He study acting at Juliiard and then built a career on the stage before his first film role in Altered States. This was followed by Body Heat which was Kathleen Turner's first film. He made several films with director Lawrence Kasdan. In Gorky Park he is a Russian policeman investigating murder and uncovering corruption. Kiss Of The Spider Woman was a different style of film and won him the Best actor Oscar. The following year he was nominated for Best Actor for Children Of A Lesser God. Broadcast News gained him another Best Actor nomination the the following year. In Accidental Tourist he deal with grief and relationships. I Love You To Death was his last film with Lawrence Kasdan. He appeared in Franco Zeffirelli's adaptation of Jayne Eyre. He then appeared in the film adaptation of Lost In Space and the science fiction, noir thriller Dark City. A.I. was another science fiction film examining what it is to be human. The Village is a very different style of film. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in A History Of Violence for a role that is only a few minutes at the end of the film. The Good Shepherd was a version of the history of the CIA. He has appeared in a number of films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the character Thaddeus Ross.
