Ronald Colman was a British actor in silent films and in sound films, with a career the spanned from the 1910's through to the 1950's. He also worked on the stage, radio and on television. After fighting in World War 1, he started his acting career on the stage in Britain and then moed to New York in 1921 and started acting on the Broadway stage. From that he got his first role in films in The White Sister. This was followed by films like Romola and Stella Dallas. His first sound film was Bulldog Drummond in 1929. Unlike many silent actors he easily made the transition to sound film with his well ennunciated British voice. The gentleman adventures was a charcter he played many times in his career. Also in 1929 he stared in Condemned and was Osacr nominated as best actor in both these films. Arrowsmith was an early John Ford film as an idealistic doctor. Clive of India was a chnage as he moved into historical drama along with A Tale Of Two Cities. In Lost Horizon he worked under Frank Capra. In the Prisoner Of Zenda he played the dual role as the king and his double. Lucky Partners was a change of pace being a romantic comdey opposite Ginger Rogers. He managed to be flirtation and honorable at the same time. This genre was continuted with My Life With Caroline and The Talk Of The Town. Randowm Harvest was a bout a man suffering from shell shock after World War 1 and earned him another Best Actor Oscar nomination. Kismet was his first of his three films in colour and glorious, entertaining nonsense. In A Double Life he plays an actor who starts to become the character he is playing. He won the Bsst Actor Oscar for this performance.
