After the scuccess of this film he went in a completely different direction with Kafka which was part in black and white, part in colour, part intellectual and part surreal. His next major film was the crime thriller Out of Sight, which was thefilm that made George Clooney a major star and a good performance from Jennifer Lopez in a film that is about the relationship between the two charcters. At this point is was putting together the wider team of people that he used consistently in his film making. The Limey was a violent revenge thriller that has throw backs to the 1960's but aged into the 1990's. Erin Brockovich was based on a true story and he got possibly the best performance from Julia Roberts an he was nominated for the Best Director Oscar. He followed this with Traffic that is about drug dealing in America through three intertwined stories and won him his Best Director Oscar. Ocean's Eleven was his remake of the classic 1960's caper/heist movie. Contagion has an ensemble cast but it is an much the characters and the the use of the camera that makes the film as much as the reality of the story.
