Milos Forman was a Czechoslovakian director who started his career in his home country and but then moved to America in 168 and continued his career there. He grew up under first Nazi and then communist rule.
His first feature film was Black Peter which was part of the Czech New Wave. He cast non-actors in several of his films. Loves Of A Blonde was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. Taking Off was his first American film. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest won him the Best Director Oscar and brought him to the notice of main stream audiences. His next film was a very different style and was making a film version of the stage musical Hair. Amadeus was a move back to Europe and was a lavish interpretation of the play. It won both Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars. Man on the Moon and The People vs. Larry Flynt are both biopics of somewhat controversial characters. Goyas Host is an historical film of Goya getting involved with the Inquisition.
