Comment/Synopsis

In Mexico in French rule, Clint Eastwood is a mercenary for the rebel cause who rescues nun Shirley MacLaine, from being raped, whilst he is looking for a way to capture a French fort. As they journey together, a friendship and relationship develops between them, meanwhile she has a secret and the French army are looking for her. This western, with some comic lines, is essentially a double header between Clint Eastwood and Shirley MacLaine, This is quite different from the other westerns Clint Eastwood made with Sergio Leone. There are parallels with The African Queen (Bogart and Hepburn) and although not quite in that league, this is still a watchable film, helped by an atmospheric sound track from Ennio Morricone.
