A single American secretary (Katharine Hepburn) travels to Italy for her first holiday. In Venice she meets a local man who stirs romantic feelings that start to break her isolation barriers. This is not a big epic David Lean film but much more about Katharine Hepburn's character and the performance that won her an Oscar nomination. It is notable for Hepburn falling into a Venice canal.
