Love story of a mermaid (Daryl Hannah) who saves a boys life (Tom Hanks) and comes back years later to find him, only Daryl Hannah does not tell Tom Hanks that she is a mermaid or that it was her that saved his life. Their relationship is complicated by a scientist trying to prove that she is a mermaid. Tom Hanks was relatively unknown when cast in this film. There is a warmth and depth to the characters that raises this above most romantic comedies. This was the film that brought director Ron Howard his first major success.
