Whoopi Goldberg is a night club singer who witnesses a murder and is hidden by the police in a convent. She does not fit in well, but then turns the poor choir into something respectable whilst the mob are still trying to track her down. This was a big commercial success thanks to the energy of Whoopi Golberg. She brought both her stand up talents as well as her singing talents to the role.
