A US marshall (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his assistant (Mark Ruffalo) are sent to a mental hospital on an island to investigate the disappearance of one of the inmates. Hwever as the investigation starts, they uncover dark goings on in the hospital and DiCaprio also brings unresolved issues following the death of his wife (Michelle Williams) in a fire and his experiences liberating a concentration camp in the war. This is a complex thrriller that gradually unfolds under the expert direction of Martin Scorsese. There is a very good performance from Leonardo DiCaprio, with good supporting performances from Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams and Emily Mortimer.
