In the 1940's a man is wrongly convicted for the murder of his wife and her lover. He is sent to a notoriously cruel prison, where he suffers at he hands of some of the other inmates and eventually escapes. Powerful drama of life in prison. Morgan Freeman gives an excellent performance as the narrator and his friend. This is a good film. despite,which is unusual for a film that rates in the top few of most critics lists of top films.
