Holly Hunter is a mute lady who moves from Scotland to New Zealand in the mid-1800's with her daughter Anna Paquin to marry Sam Neil. She takes her beloved piano, but Sam Neil sells it to his neighbour Harvey Keitel. Harvey Keitel then offfers to let her buy it back for lessons and other favours, with the inevitable consequences for all the relationships. This is beautifully filmed and a well played examintation of relationships. The film was written and directed by Jane Campion.
