A barber steals some money, gives some to his wife to pay off the debt she has to one of the local shopkeepers, but as they were new consecutve notes the police get suspicious and start investgating. The shopkeeper starts blackmailing the man and then the shopkeeper is murdered. The flm is set aganst a working class Newcastle background and is unusual in that it deals with debt and postnatal depression. It is a depressing film of people in poverty and down on their luck.
