A widow losses her job when the only employer intown closes, so she sells up her belonings, buys a van and travels across the country. living out of the van and picking up seasonal jobs. As she travels she meets various people with nomadic lifestyles who help her on her journey. The film is slow and wordy and is a mix of Frances Mcormand's character dealing with her grief and a fly on the wall documentary of of the life of a nomad living out of a van. Much of the film was filmed on location with the cast and crew living in vans and with with many of the actors actual nomads and some playing the charcters that appear in the original book the film is based on. Chloe Zhao became the second female director to win a Best Director Oscar.
