Johnny Depp is a rare book collector who is asked by Frank Langella to verify the authenticity of a book, of which there are only 2 other known copies. The book is reputed to raise the devil and in his quest Johnny Depp comes across a variety of both human and supernatural attempts to stop him. This is a film that had the potential to be good, but the acting is disappointingly flat and the flow of the plot is stilted as the film moves between the scenes. This is not one of Roman Polanski's better films.
