retired boxer (George Raft) opens an upmarket speakeasy where a woman (Constance Cummings) comes each night and sits on her own. He discovers that she once lived in the house and they develop a relationship whilst dealing with gagsters. The plot is not great but the film is worth watching for the performance of Constance Cummings as she goes through a whole range of emotions . There is good support from Wynne Gibson and Alison Skipworth. Whilst Mae West does not really act, she does dominate the scenes she is in with her dialogue, dresses and diamonds. This one is definately pre-code.
