A mill owner and a wealthy man have a long running feud that affects their bussiness, family and relationships of a period of years. The daughter (Geraldine Fitzgerald) of the mill owner falls in love with the son (Frank Lawton) of the rival family, and then things get more complicated as she falls for the fiancee (Griffith Jones) of her best friend (Victoria Hopper). It is notable for an early performance from James Mason as the son of the mill owner. The film is based on a story by George Elliott.
