Comment/Synopsis

A man (Chevy Chase) gets caught in a government experiment that goes wrong and turns him invisible. As he tries to come to terms with the impact and implications of being invisible, he is chased by a government agent (Sam Neill) and falls for a woman (Daryl Hannah) who agrees to help him. There are many versions of the invisible man story and this one tries to show some of the practical implications of being invisible. However it seems to not really be sure what sort of film it wants to be and that leaves it a bit of a mess. John Carpenter said it was one of the films he was least proud of and Chevy Chase and Daryl Hannah were difficult to work with. This was also Chevy Chase wanting to play a straight role rather than his usual comedy roles. Claude Rains as the Invisible Man in 1933 is still one of the best versions of the story.
