Comment/Synopsis

After the death of her husband, the king of France, Mary (Katherine Hepburn) returns to Scotland to take the crown, but she is not popular with all her subjects nor with Elizabeth (Florence Eldridge), the queen of England. Katherine Hepburn is good in the lead role as the woman caught up in the political intrigues of the period and caught between the man she married (Douglas Walton) and the man she loved (Fredric March). Whilst the film is well delivered by director John Ford, it suffers from being overlong and too wordy.
