Comment
A French playboy (Charles Boyer) and an American woman (Irene Dunne) fall in love on a boat trip across the Atlantic despite each being engaged to someone else. They arrange to meet 6 months later at the top of the Empire State building when they have both got jobs. However rushing to get to the meeting she has a car accident. This is a good romance, that mixes well the romance, the story and some lighter scenes. Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer give good performances in the lead roles, with Irene Dunne getting an Oscar nomination for her performance. The film was remade in colour as An Affair To Remember with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.

The things we like best are either illegal, immoral or fattening.
Michel: Top of the Empire State Building?
Terry McKay: Yes. That's it right there. It's the tallest building in the world - you can't miss that. It's the nearest thing to heaven we have in New York.
