The sole survivour (David Thewlis) of an air crash in the pacific is rescued and taken to an island where Dr Moreau (Marlon Brando) is mixing human and animal DNA with disasterous conseuqnces. Dr Moreau keeps the creatures under control with pain giving implants but then the creatures start to rebel, kill the doctor and that start to turn on each each. This is a poor, violent and unpleasant version of the H G Wells story. The original director was replaced after 4 days of filming and John Frankenheimer took over, but it continued to be a troubled film to make, with both Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer being not fully commited. The earlier 1977 and 1932 version are better.
