A politician in Victorian England (Hugh Williams) is blackmailed by a woman (Paulette Goddard) over a financial indiscrestion in the past that would end his career and his marriage (Diana Wynyard). This is based on the Osacar Wilde play of Victorian high society morals and political corruption. Michael Wilding gives a good performance as the man's friend who appears showllow but is in fact his best friend. Paulette Goddard is good as the scheming blackmailer and Diana Wynyard as the wife with high morals who cannot forgive the past faults in people. This was well produced by Alexander Korda with some nice technicolour costumes. Glynis Johns is charming as the daughter.
