A Norwegian family who moved to America in the early part of the 20th century, struggle with poverty and the ups and downs of life. This is a good examination of the life of an immigrant family. There is a good performance from Irene Dunne as the mother who keeps the family on track and Barbara Bel Geddes as the daughter who narrates over the story. There is a fun performance from Oskar Homolka as the larger than life uncle. What makes this good is it's attempt to give a window on the reality of life.
