Comment/Synopsis

A woman spurns her lover and marries another man, but when she is dying she hands over her baby to the spurned nman to bring up as his own. However is is resentfull of being spurned and makes the daughters life a misery, stops her marrying the love of her life and forces her to marry a brutal man who also makes her life misery. This is very melodramatic of life long revenge and love. THe British film was filmed on location in Yorkshire and has some wonderful shots of the landscape. It is also unusual in that the intertitles are written in Yorkshire dialect, that links back to the original novel. Alma Taylor gives a good and reasonably natural performance in the lead role.
