In Victorian London a couple move into a house that has been empty ever since a woman was murdered for some rubies that were never found. The husband is looking for the rubies and is trying to send his wife mad to hide what she knows about him. This is the Hollywood version of the classic stage play with a very good performance from Ingrid Bergman as the wife being subject to psychological tourture. There is good suport from Charles Boyer as thhe husband and Angela Lansbury as the maid.
