Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider are two policemen who are on the trail of a drug dealing ring. This film was hard hitting for its time and is famous for the car chase under the railway that has become a classic example of how to film a car chase and has been the basis of many car chases in other films. The film also had a gritty realism that was new for the time.
