When her husband dies, the mother of four children goes back to her parents house. However her father has disowned her and her mother is abusive to the children because of their mother's previous relationship and so keeps them prisoner in the attic.The chiildren are abused by the grandmother and their mother ignores her children kept in the attic as she tries to re-marry and inherit the family fortune. The underlying story is lost by a lack of any dark or sinister feeling to the production. Heatehr Graham is too insipid as the mother and there is little tension from being kept in an attic for two years.
