The wealthy matriarch of a family rules them by intimidation and particularly dislikes her new sister-in-law and does all she can to break up their marriage. Evelyn Venable is good as the manipulative matriarch and carries the film. Mary Morris gives good support as the innocent woman being persecuted. The film is based on a stage play and despite Charles Vidor's direction it does have the feel of a stage play, though it is an effective melodrama.
