In a post-apocalyptic world the residents are divided up into 5 factions with different roles in society. Teenagers have to choose which faction to choose. One young girl discovers that she is a divergen as does not fit into any of the catergories. As she goes through the training of the military faction she discovers a plot to overthrow the structure of the society and kill the divergents. Shailene Woodley gives a good performance as the young woman coming to terms with being different and trying to save the world. There are problems with plot and some of the logic, which is not helped by the underuse of Kate Winslet as the leader trying to take over.
