In 1938 a land owner (Carye Mulligan) employs an archaeological excavator (Ralph Fiennes) to excavate a mound on her land only to reveal the Sutton Hoo burial ship, one of the most important archaeological sites in Britain. There are very good performances from Ralph Fiennes as the outsider making the major discovery and Carey Mulligan as the woman who owns the land and also has physical and emotional problems. Lily James is good in a supporting role as one of the assistant archeologists.
